Back in September of 2019 a Samantha Seevers overdosed on Fentanyl behind a Marietta gas station and died. The person who sold the drugs was sentenced to prison time today in Marietta Municpal Court.  His name Is Darin Craig from Whipple, Ohio.

Throughout an investigation into Darin Craig, the Marietta Police Department says Craig informed a purchaser the drugs were strong and had killed someone.  What was about to be sold was reportedly the same drugs Seevers took just days prior.  Detective Sergeant Ryan Huffman spoke about the sentencing.

"That to me showed a lack of remorse for his actions," said Detective Sergeant Huffman. "I hope the lack of remorse in the case was one of the sentencing factors that shined to the judge."

The Judge in the case was the newly appointed Judge John Halliday.   Craig was indicted on involuntary manslaughter and the corruption of an individual with drugs.

Rodney Hupp, Marietta Chief of Police, added, "There have been several successful prosecutions like this in Washington County and I do not anticipate this to be the last. We are going to put a lot of resources into going after the people that are threatening to poison the community."

Craig was sentenced to five years in prison and currently has time served since the investigation and initial arrest.  Police say that if the corrections system doesn't think Craig is ready to rejoin society after the 5 years of prison time, he could be facing an additional 2 and a half years.
