Jade Thompson
Yesterday, WMOA reported on Jade Thompson being named Marietta City Councilwoman at large, replacing Ben Rutherford. Thompson is a lifelong resident of Marietta. She explained what prompted her to throw her name into the hat for the then-vacant seat on council. "I think probably the biggest service to my community, you know, wanting to do something. I am a public school teacher. I teach at Marietta High School. I have about 2.5 to 3 years before I retire. I'm just looking for something to challenge myself and learn some new things, and I love my city." Thompson will assume the duties of Chair of the Water and Sewer Committee. She talked about what tops her priority list as she enters Council. Thompson has pre-established relationships with most of the current city council members and looks forward to working alongside them. "We may, you know, vehemently disagree with one another. I have my own opinions, and I'm sure they all do too. So I think it's gonna be interesting. I'm looking forward to it. I mean, I think it's, you know, you have to think of it positively, not like a stick in the eye club. You have to think of it as a blessing to learn and give back to your city." The next regular city council meeting is on March 5th, starting at 7:30 PM at the armory. You can view the entire schedule of upcoming committee and special meetings on the Marietta City website.
