A Black Lives Matter Protest was held in Marietta, Ohio from 12pm-6pm on June 15th.

The organizer of the event is Dennis Mwagbe, who spoke at the peaceful demonstration held on June 7th in East Muskingum Park. Mwagbe was motivated after the demonstration to keep that positive energy going in the community.

"This is not going to change overnight. We need to do this every week if possible," Mwagbe said. "Where I am from in Kentucky, people are protesting every day. It is a small town just like this and I wanted to do something similar for this community."

The protest began at the intersection of Putnam Street and Front Street, then protestors marched down Front Street to the fountain by The Lafayette Hotel. Before the march began, Skylar Steward, with the Ohio Patriots, was called to escort the peaceful protestors down Front Street.

"When we first got here a lot of (protestors) were nervous because someone was carrying a firearm that was not with the Ohio Militia," Steward said. "Our goal is to make sure that everyone has their constitutional right to protest peacefully."

Dennis Mwagbe told WMOA News that he plans to hold protests every Monday for the rest of 2020.
