The Washington County Sheriff's Office will be holding its first session of the new Citizens Academy. This program will provide participants with an inside look at law enforcement. Here is Washington County Sheriff Mark Warden.

"As I went through my campaign, I talked about the transparency of the Washington County Sheriff's Office. I can think of no better way to start an academy with the citizens, bring them into the sheriff's office, and explain all three divisions within the agency. That's your jail division, your criminal division, your civil division, and explaining to our citizens what their taxpayers do for this great agency."

Classes are taught by WCSO administration, deputies, and specialized civilian employees. Additionally, participants have the opportunity to interact with Sheriff Warden and other members of the Office.

"We plan to run once a week for about an hour and a half for six weeks. We're really excited about it. Remember our first one, I'm gonna look at about 21 citizens. We may tailor fit that more to the next academy, or we may go less on the next academy. But again, I'm really excited about this new program and the transparency that we can provide to you as a citizen."

The sessions may include demonstrations, discussions, lectures, and interactive exercises. There is no cost involved, and all class materials are provided to participants. You can view the session schedule on the Washington County Sheriff's Office website.
