Coming to the Marietta area in the next few weeks will be a cafe with a twist, as the River City Kitty Cafe will be opening soon at the Broughton Complex. We talked with owner Becca Johnson about what a Kitty Cafe is.

"Their main purpose is to bring adoptable cats into a comfortable environment where people can interact with them and hopefully adopt them. It's also a nice place where people who may not be able to have pets, or who live in apartments, can interact with these cats."

They will be in the Broughton Building, Complex 1, Building 3, Suite B. They will be located beside Mercy Now Veterinary Care. Johnson explained how they will be obtaining the cats for the cafe.

"We are working with, uh, local rescues and humane societies to bring adoptable cats to, um, our Marietta Cafe."

The Cafe will be divided into two parts. One part will be the Cafe portion with the Cats, and the other will be for food. Johnson explained the timeline for opening and how one side may be open before the other.

" We're hoping to have at least the cat side open by the end of February. Fewer licensing issues and fewer issues on the cat side. The wall is nearly complete, and we're installing a separate air-handling unit on the cat side so the cafe and cat lounge air don't interact or mix. Once we have that in, we will continue working on the food licensing for the cafe side."
