Utilizing DORAs Safely
With the warmer weather, the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Liquor Control reminds consumers and nonprofit event organizers to know the rules of Ohio's Designated Outdoor Refreshment Areas. Benjamin Combs, the Bar Manager and Assistant Manager at Black Diamond Brewery and Distillery on Front Street, shares more. "There's a, you know, maybe three square block radius that you can walk around with your DORA cup. Um, you have to go to a DORA certified establishment to get your official DORA cup. Most places charge a dollar for the cup. Um, and then you have to, you know, consume it out of that cup, and the cups are compostable, and you have to use them just one at a time. You can't refill your cup. And so you need to be of legal drinking age, and it runs from Wednesday until Saturday from noon until midnight." He talks about how to participate responsibly. "It's partially up to the bartenders to not over-serve, but o- obviously you don't wanna be getting too intoxicated and then wandering, wandering the streets. The law enforcement in the area would, uh, frown upon people getting too, uh, out of hand out there. So, you know, you just need to know your limits." Black Diamond is one of the 11 DORA establishments downtown. "Well, come to Black Diamond and get yourself a fancy Dora cocktail and enjoy the beautiful weather." Combs reminds participants to stay hydrated in the summer heat.
