A "Star Spangled Sing Off" is a nationwide contest taking place in celebration of America 250. Hollyn Reed, a recent graduate from Warren High School, is WTAP's winner. Reed shares the details.


"Star Spangled Sing Off is pretty much just a competition. Um, well, the first, like, rounds, I guess, was just in the Mid-Ohio Valley, which is what I won. But it was pretty much just a competition in order to submit your video of you singing the national anthem and the Mid-Ohio Valley voting their favorite audition that was posted."
 
The overall winner will be filmed by WTAP and all other Gray Media stations throughout the US. 
 
"You submit your video of you singing it, but then, like, the overall winner gets a trip to Nashville, a paid, all expenses paid trip to Nashville, and you specifically get to record, like, your rendition of the national anthem for a 250 celebration, like, commercial."
 
She knows what the song means to both her country and herself.
 
"I'm going into service, you know, because, like, I wanna serve. And actually being able to sing the Star Spangled Banner, like, everywhere in all these different events from the VFW to, like, Veterans Day ceremonies has, like, kind of given me that sense of, like, why I really think I wanna pursue something like this."
 
To participate in regional voting, you can visit WTAP's website. One vote can be cast every day until June 28th at 11:59 PM. The final winner will be announced on July 2nd.
