Washington County Sheriffs Office Drone Day

If the weather permits, the Washington County Sheriff's Office will hold its first Drone Day on July 14th from 10 AM to 2 PM. This will take place at the Broughton Nature Park Parking Lot, off State Route 821.

 

Davis Powers, the Public Information Officer and Drone Unit Coordinator, shares more. 


"This is an opportunity for the Washington County Sheriff's Office drone unit to show a little bit about what we do. Um, and so we'll discuss, uh, the use cases that we, we use drones for, specifically like search and rescue, post crime scene, uh, crime scene operations. And so we want to show that and also, you know, answer any questions about regulations and give some people a chance to fly, uh, one of our drones."
 
Powers shares that this event has the potential to find a medium between entertainment and education. 
 
"When we can get young adults interested in flying drones and talk about the various careers that are involved with drones, you know, that, that gives something that if you can bridge that want of what your hobby is and something that's a career, then, then there's something to go forward there."
 
While all children must be accompanied by an adult, anyone is welcome to simply show up. 
 
"All ages are welcome, and, uh, we thoroughly enjoy having discussions about, uh, how we use drones and why we use drones with, with all ages. So anyone can come up. We'll be doing demos throughout those four hours with both our small drones, uh, which are like first-person view drones with-- which give a really unique perspective on flying a drone, and also our larger drone that we use for, um, a lot of different kinds of operations."
 
During Drone Day, the public can expect to learn, discover, and fly drones.
