Think Fast Interactive comes to the Mid Ohio Valley
Two local high schools, Fort Frye and Waterford, collaborated on Tuesday, April 21st, for a "thinkfast interactive" program highlighting driving safety. Tim John, out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, started the program in the early 1990s at the college level. "What we developed was by using an audience response system. Basically, the multi-digit wireless, uh, controllers that we have. We could have upwards of 500 to a thousand students, so it wasn't 10 lucky kids playing the game." This program certainly reaches its target audience. "In short, though, if you were saying, why are you still here 30 years later? Because we have an intellectual, uh, program that is competitive and it's fun. It, it encompasses music, uh, stage, uh, performances, and also just a lot of live interaction." The Fort Frye and Waterford student body actively engaged in the high-energy atmosphere. "Most teenagers about 10 minutes in and say, you know, I get it. Don't you know? Do they have to sit there for another hour? And they kind of, they lose these people. I think if you attended the program today, what you would've noticed is that people are into it from the beginning to the end." Makayla Carpenter, a sophomore at FFHS and an advancing member in the interactive program, shares why she feels the event was impactful. "Fort Frye and Waterford students being there is very important because even though we are rivals, it shows the spirit that both schools share and that at some point and time everybody can come together at the same time. Since it's seatbelt, safety week and prom, I feel like it's very important that we got students at both schools there to learn how they could protect themselves and other drivers." Carpenter learned the importance of seatbelt safety and what it means to have good driving habits during the 1-hour interaction.
