WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ohio (October 21, 2016) - If you have expired, unused, or unwanted medications in your home, Medication Take Back Day – slated for Saturday, October 22 – is a practical and safe solution. The event, sponsored by the Washington County Sheriff's Office and Marietta Health Systems, allows area residents to safely dispose of outdated or unwanted medicines.

Washington County Sheriff Deputy Ryan Reeder says Washington County has been participating in the program for the past four years. He says all medications received through the effort are taken off site and destroyed according to standards set by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, which helps keep dangerous drugs off the street and out of the hands of children.

Medication Take Back Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday. Reeder says it is fast and easy to drop off medications, and residents don't even have to get out of their cars.

Drop-off locations include the Belpre Senior Center; the corner of Second and Putnam Streets in Marietta; White Oak Pharmacy in Barlow; Fort Frye High School in Beverly; the Buckeye Hills/Area Agency on Aging office in Reno; the Devola Medical Center; and Hardwood Components, Inc. in New Matamoras.
