(Marietta, OH) – Voter registration for the March primary election is getting closer. Voters must register at the Washington County Board of Elections by February 16th.
Ballots will be ready on the 17th.
Local candidates running for Washington County Commissioner are incumbent Republicans David White and Ron Feathers. Also in the running is Democrat Donn Kerr.
The candidates for Common Pleas Judge are Republicans Mark Kerenyi, John Halliday, and Flite Freimann. The Democratic candidate for Common Pleas Judge is Shoshanna Brooker.
Washington County Treasurer has three candidates, two republicans, Tammy Bates and Douglas Dye. Running as Democrat for that office is Carolyn Dempsey.
Incumbent Republican Roger Wright is the only candidate listed running for Washington County Engineer. Kevin Rings, Republican, is the only candidate running for Washington County Prosecutor.
Running unopposed are incumbent Larry Mincks Sr. for Washington County Sheriff, Republican Kenneth Leopold for Washington County Coroner, Democrat Tracey Wright for Washington County Recorder, and incumbent Republican Benda Wolfe for Clerk of Courts.
Also, voters in Muskingum Township are being asked to approve a 1.5 mill, 5-year replacement levy for the Devola Fire Department. Funds from the proposed tax will allow the department to maintain and upgrade equipment and services.
A replacement levy is different from a renewal levy in that the tax is collected on current valuations of property, not the valuation of property when the tax was first approved. Passage of the levy would mean a small increase in taxes for property owners in Muskingum Township.
