(MARIETTA, OH) - When the new school year starts, Marietta Middle School will be lit up in the interest of safety.

This year, the school crossing guard will get a lighted sign, courtesy of a $300 donation from Donn Schafer of Settler's Bank.

In previous years, the crossing guards used standard stop signs and neon safety vests as they maintained traffic while helping students safely cross Glendale Road and the middle school driveway before school starts and after it ends.

School officials say the new stop sign will make crossing guards more visible to drivers, making the job safer for them and increasing students' safety as they cross the streets.
