I'll start this off by saying that I have never seen a full minute of this show in my life but it means a lot to my co-host, Laura Bays. Having said that I'll do my research and talk about this show like I'm an expert. Unfortunately after the 11th season of Modern Family, ABC has decided to cancel it.
The "mockumentary" style sit-coms are great. The most well known are of course - The Office, Parks and Recreation, Trailer Park Boys and Modern Family. If I had to choose which is my favorite it would have to be the first seven seasons (plus the last episode) of The Office and every minute of Parks and Rec. I'm actually on my second round of The Office, watching each and every episode, in order, because my Fiance hasn't seen any of them. She loves it... Parks and Rec is next.
Modern Family started its run in 2009 and takes a different approach to the "Mockumentary" style situation comedy. The Office was about an office, Parks and Rec was about the Parks and Rec Department in a small town and Modern Family... well it's all in the name. It is the story of life lived by a... MODERN FAMILY.
Chrsitopher Lloyd (had to look him up because I thougt it was the same guy in the Back to The Future trilogy... it's not) and Steven Levitan created this show after sitting around telling stories about their own "modern families." Throughout the 10 seasons that have already happened, it won Emmy awards multiple times... like twenty two of them. And dozens more nominatinos.
From watching the video that is attached to this article, I can tell that there were millions of times to laugh during its run. President of ABC Entertainment, Karey Burke said that this final season of Modern Family will feature more milestone events that fans won't want to miss.
Unfortunately E News reports that ratings, though very strong, haven't been as strong as they once were. The original contract was only for ten seasons. There was reportedly a death and a surprise pregnancy off set (obviously involving a cast members) and Lloyd reported that the writers and he had planned it to be the final season... or the next to final season.
Spinoff series' are a possibility which is reportedly easier to accomplish with Disney buying 20th Century Fox.
