Three people escaped serious injuries yesterday in two accidents
that had the potential to be deadly…
MARIETTA REALTOR HURT IN FREAK ACCIDENT
A Marietta real estate agent was injured yesterday in an accident in her driveway. The Marietta police and fire departments were dispatched to the
Shelly Windeler residence on Hillcrest Drive. When they arrived they found Ms
Windeler trapped beneath her car.
Police said a work
truck from Harrison Construction was parked in Ms Windeler’s steep driveway.
She arrived home and parked behind the truck as workers were removing boards
from a stack of composite decking material in the truck bed. As she was placing
a real estate sign her car’s trunk, the stack of decking came loose.
The two Harrison Construction employees then lifted the
Lexus from atop her and helped her until a rescue squad arrived. In what Sgt. Rodney Hupp described as a wedge effect, the
weight and momentum of the boards simultaneously knocked the victim down and
pushed the car back 6-10 feet, trapping her beneath it.
Ms Windeler was
transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital and treated for her injuries, which
include a broken collarbone and broken ribs, along with substantial abrasions.
She was treated and released from Memorial.
TWO ESCAPE SERIOUS INJURY IN VAN-SEMI WRECK
A truck driver made a mistake
Monday afternoon and caused a traffic crash, but it could have been much worse
than it was.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol
says that at 3:15 p.m., 30-year-old William Cain of Big Springs, West Virginia,
pulled his tractor-trailer out from Blue Knob Road onto State Route 7 and into
the path of a Ford van driven by 22-year-old Russell Allen of Little Hocking.
The van slammed into the side
of the trailer. Allen and his passenger, 45-year-old Miriam Allen of Little
Hocking, were reported to be trapped in their van. The Warren Township
volunteer fire department responded.
The Allens were taken to Camden
Clark Medical Center for treatment. Fortunately, according to the Highway Patrol, their
injuries were not life-threatening.
Mr. Cain, who was not
injured, was cited for failure to yield.
