Marietta Native Learns Underwater
Local Marine Research Recently, Sara McElroy, a Marietta resident and graduate of Ceaderville University, completed a semester-long internship with the Bermuda Institute for Ocean Sciences through Arizona State University. During the internship, McElroy conducted a research project studying how repeated heat stress affects coral protein levels. Her work contributed to a larger project called ENCORE, which focuses on understanding what factors influence coral's response to environmental stressors. Her work allowed her to conduct research in the lab, step outside onto the beach, and snorkel the reefs. Now that school is behind her, she says she wants to spend the next year doing mission work.
