(MARIETTA, OH) - A homeless man who was staying with a friend and his family is facing charges following his arrest for stealing their car and driving it to Morgan County.

Marietta Police Captain Jeff Waite says Daniel Shafer of Fourth Street called to report his car had been stolen by 19-year-old Charles Raymond Cody Miller on Monday, and this morning, the Morgan County Sheriff's Office told the MPD its deputies had arrested Miller.

Morgan County authorities say they found Miller driving a different vehicle than the one he was accused of stealing from Shafer. Deputies say the license plates from Shafer's car were removed and placed on the vehicle Miller was found driving.

Waite says the Morgan County Sheriff's office eventually recovered Shafer's stolen car, and MPD officers met with deputies and arrested Miller for motor vehicle theft and burglary.

Waite says Miller refused to discuss the theft and told officers he wanted to sleep.

Nevertheless, he was taken to jail.
