Marietta Memorial Hospital Breaks Ground on Belpre Emergency Department
Posted on: 04/25/2013
Marietta Memorial Hospital’s Belpre campus
continues to expand, with the announcement yesterday of a new 57,000 square
foot building.
Scott Cantley, president and CEO of Memorial Health System, says
“This one will house an emergency department – the
region’s first free-standing emergency department, as well as endoscopy
surgical suites. And, it’s additional
expansion for other hospital-based ambulatory services or physician offices.”
This is the third building at the Farson Street
campus. The $25 million project should be finished next spring. Cantley says the
success of the other facilities prompted another expansion.
“We have been so impressed with the response from
Parkersburg and Belpre to our facilities that it makes this a very easy
decision to continue to plan for new growth and new services here in Belpre,” Cantley states.
Belpre Mayor Mike Lorentz says Memorial’s
investments are bringing multiple benefits to the city.
“We are about a 42 percent retirement or elderly
community. These are services that are needed. Plus the job opportunities and
the professionals moving to our city is going to create a different atmosphere,
for education, for our way of life here in the city. And Marietta Memorial is
now our largest employer,”
says
Mayor Lorentz, who adds that the city and ODOT will soon
begin widening Farson Street, including turn lanes, to stay ahead of increasing
traffic.
Cantley says the health system wanted to make sure
the Belpre area has access to its emergency services, as demand for such
services continues to grow.
“That’s what we focus on in our ER’s. Certainly, as
we’ve grown our presence here in Belpre, we certainly know the access and the
convenience is there. The emergency
services piece, which has grown so much in Marietta – at both our Selby and
Memorial locations – we felt like that was the right next step for this campus
as well.”
