Jays walk off on Tribe

The Indians' six game winning streak ended last night as Ryan Goins' two-run homer in the 10th gave the Blue Jays a 5-3 win in the second game of the series.

Yan Gomes hit two solo home runs for the Indians, the second of which tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the 9th. Michael Brantley hit a solo shot of his own in the 4th off Jays starter Marco Estrada to put the Tribe on the board. Estrada wound up with a no decision, yielding runs on Brantley's longball and Gomes' first homer in the 7th but keeping the Tribe in check otherwise, going 7 innings and allowing 5 hits with a pair of strikeouts and a walk.

Cody Anderson took a no decision, going 6 innings and allowing 2 runs on 3 hits with two K's and two walks. Bryan Shaw took the loss by allowing Goins' walk off shot.

The Tribe have one more in Toronto. Hear it on WJAW FM 100.9 at 6:37pm.

Pirates fall to Brewers

Milwaukee starter Jimmy Nelson beat the Pirates for the 4th time this season, improving his record to 11-10 as the Brewers topped the Pirates 7-4.

Nelson went 7 for the Brew Crew, giving up a lone run on 4 hits with 6 strikeouts. The Brewers built an early lead for Nelson, scoring 5 runs in the first two innings off of Gerrit Cole. The Pirates ace lasted just 4 innings after being bumped up in the rotation to line up for the upcoming Cardinals series this weekend.

Neil Walker's RBI single would be the only run the Pirates could muster with Nelson on the hill. Pedro Alvarez launched a solo homer in the 8th off reliever Cory Knebel to cut the lead at that point to 5-2. Jean Segura tacked on insurance with a 2-run single in the bottom of the inning. Aramis Ramirez and Jung Ho Kang each hit solo homers in the 9th but it was too little, too late.

The series continues tonight. Hear it on WJAW AM 630 at 7:45pm.

Reds lose to Cubs

Cubs rookie Kyle Schwarber hit the deciding blow in a back-and-forth contest last night that saw the Cubs edge the Reds 5-4. Schwarber's two-run homer in the bottom of the 7th gave the Cubs the lead just a half-inning after Eugenio Suarez broke a 3-3 tie with a solo home run.

Joey Votto got the Reds off to a good start, hitting a solo home run in the first to grab an early advantage. Reds starter Anthony DeSclafani helped his own cause with an RBI single in the 5th that put the Reds in front 2-1, and an inning later Votto added to the lead with an RBI double. DeSclafani would last 5.2 innings for Cincinnati, allowing 3 earned runs on 5 hits with 7 strikeouts and two walks.

Despite giving up Suarez' go-ahead homer in the 7th, Fernando Rodney got the win out of the bullpen for the Cubs while Burke Badenhop took the loss by allowing Schwarber's homer.

The Reds are in action this afternoon at Wrigley. Hear it at 1:50pm on WMOA AM 1490.
