A community meeting Monday night resulted in some suggestions for the future of recycling operations locally.
The Washington County Commissioners have decided to stop funding the Marietta Recycling Center due to budget constraints. This week, residents gathered to discuss options in light of the recent decision.
One possibility would be for the Southeastern Ohio Joint Solid Waste Management District to expand their operations to include more drop-off sites for materials.
Another option would be for the materials to be handled by a private interest – but not all costs would be covered.
A task force will be formed to review the options more thoroughly and decide on future steps.
