A 25 year old Athens County man was arrested for his part in an incident that resulted in his own shooting after he allegedly tried to steal prescription medication from his father.

Matthew Thomas broke into his 74 year old father’s Glouster home Friday evening. A confrontation ensued and Matthew Thomas was shot during a struggle over a gun. He was treated for a minor wound and released from the hospital.

Upon his arrest, Thomas attacked a captain with the Athens county sheriff’s department. He was placed in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on a felony charge of burglary. Additional charges are expected Monday.
