State Rep. Debbie Phillips presented a ceremonial state check to Athens County officials yesterday for improvements to the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway. She joined Ohio Department of Natural Resources Director Sean Logan for the ceremony. The state Clean Ohio Trails Grant of $182,000 will allow local officials to construct a safe and effective way for students and residents to access the bikeway.

The project involves construction of an asphalt paved Bikeway to connect the existing Hockhocking Adena Bikeway with the Athens High School and the unincorporated area of The Plains.  The existing bikeway runs from the city of Athens to the city of Nelsonville – bypassing The Plains and the high school.
