Algae Advisories Include Burr Oak State Park
Posted on: 08/16/2010
By  Callie Lyons
Due to the presence of algal toxins found within the water of a number of inland lakes across Ohio, Ohio EPA, Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Ohio Department of Health are releasing a comprehensive list of updated sampling results.
No contact advisories remain in place for Grand Lake St Marys and Cutler Lake in Blue Rock State Park. There is also a toxin advisory in place for Burr Oak State Park. This means that people and pets visiting the lake are strongly urged for their own safety to have no contact with the water, including fishing and boating. Recreational activities associated with the lakes’ water are deemed unsafe at this time, and visitors should not risk ingestion of the lake water. All state parks remain open to visitors. People recreating in other inland lakes should use similar precautions as they would in any non-chlorinated surface water.

Because toxin levels can fluctuate, the State will continue sampling from the lakes.
