Council Members Question Court Energy Study
Posted on: 02/03/2010
By  Kylie Smith

Marietta City Council members met as a committee of the whole last night to discuss questions over an energy study performed on the new municipal court facility.

Councilman Jon Grimm and David Haas of Morrison, Inc. are questioning the costs projected for heating and cooling the facility. Korda engineering performed the study, which recommended a variable air volume system with an estimated operational cost around $8,000 per year.

Haas estimates that operational costs will be closer to $2 more per square foot, which is an annual difference of about $20,000. Korda engineers say Haas’s numbers are excessively high.

While council members are hesitant to take any action that would delay the project, it was agreed that City Engineer Joe Tucker and Haas will review the information with Korda to try to make sense of the differences.
