(MARIETTA, OH) - In the wake of a pair of vicious dog attacks in Washington County, the Humane Society is getting a renewed contract.
The Humane Society will be receiving $5000 in funds from Washington County, but has some terms in its contract to which it has to adhere.
The terms of the contract require the Humane Society to give the dog warden accurate accounting for all impounded dogs, to provide the warden with a dog’s date of euthanization if it isn’t claimed or adopted, to verify that a dog license has been obtained before releasing an impounded dog to its owner, and to deposit all reclaim fees with the Board of Commissioners office.
The new reclaim fee will be $30 with a $5-per-day food and shelter fee.
Dogs impounded twice in a one-year period will require a $10 fee, and those impounded three or four times will incur fees of $20 and $30 respectively.
The Humane Society does not have the authority to waive any of the fees, according to terms of the contract.
