AT&T has turned on a state-of-the-art 4G LTE wireless network in the Parkersburg-Marietta market, meaning better and faster mobile technology for its customers.

Company officials made the announcement today at their Kroger Shopping Center location in Marietta.

Local and state representatives hope the faster Internet speeds will speed up economic development as well.

State Senator Lou Gentile (D-Steubenville) says 4G is critical to growing the job market in Marietta and southeast Ohio, citing needs in the medical community, among others.

State Representative Andy Thompson (R-Marietta) is hopeful the local wireless investment will promote more entrepreneurship. He says wireless devices are at an all-time high in their importance to business success. Thompson is confident the 4G network will help business people in Marietta to better network around the region and the world.

Mayor Joe Matthews says the ability of Marietta residents to network more effectively will enhance the city’s economy, plus he expects the enhanced technology to play a role in promoting Marietta as a desirable place to work and live.
