Medicare Plan 'Window' Opens Next Week
Posted on: 10/08/2013
By  Andy Rex, Mike Cullums

One week from today, on October 15, the annual window opens for seniors to join, update or change Medicare plans. The window remains open through December 7.

WMOA News spoke with Gerri Van Noy of the Area Agency on Aging in Marietta to learn more…

“It’s during this particular time period that individuals have to make any changes they want to their Medicare.  Whether they want to change their Medicare Part D plan or if they want to change from traditional Medicare to an Advantage Plan, they have this window of time to change anything they want.  We can help them look at their Medicare Part D plan and see what might save them the most money or look at the Advantage Plans and see what’s available in their area and how expensive they are, and what is the most affordable for them.”

Van Noy says there are various plans from which to choose…

“There’s usually around 30 different Medicare Part D Plans that would be available in our area that they could choose from.  Medicare Advantage Plans just vary from what area you live in, because they have coverage areas.  So, it would depend on where you live at as to what Medicare Advantage Plan might be best for you.”

If you want to do some research beforehand, she recommends you visit www.medicare.gov. Van Noy says it’s very easy to navigate by clicking on “Find Health and Drug Plans.”

Or, if you prefer, Van Noy says their agency, in conjunction with the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program, will soon host a Medicare Check Up Day…

“We’re having a Medicare Check Up Day here at the Area Agency on Aging on Monday, October 21.  It will start at 9 am, and there will be representatives from OSHIIP here at the office.  They’re going to give a short presentation at 9:00 about Medicare and different types of things that you can do during this open enrollment period.  After that, it is open until 2:30, and they’re going to offer Medicare check-ups.  They can call our office at 1-800-331-2644 to schedule a time.”

The local number for the Area Agency on Aging is (740) 373-6400.  The office is located at 1400 Pike Street.
