Large Crowds Enjoy Sternwheel Festival
Posted on: 09/09/2013

Big crowds, busy vendors, lots of free entertainment and amazing fireworks – another Ohio River Sternwheel Fesitval is history. Veteran vendors and boosters commented that it may have been the busiest festival they’ve experienced.
There were some anxious moments on Saturday evening after a 56-year-old man became disoriented and separated from his family. The man – with no previous history of medical issues – was on his cell phone but was unable to tell relatives or police where he was, giving confused answers to questions. Officers and relatives searched the huge crowd for more than an hour until the man was found at the corner of Third and Butler streets. A rescue squad took him to Marietta Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Other than that incident and the usual festival traffic and parking issues, police report no serious problems.
Officers cited two 24-year-old Marietta men for criminal trespassing after they climbed the fire escape to the roof of the Lafayette Hotel. They had the best seats at the Festival - briefly.
