UPDATE: Rail Crossing Rebuilt and Open After Three Day Closure and Detours
Posted on: 08/22/2013
By  Mike Cullums
The CSX rail crossing on Fort Harmar Drive (State Route 7) near the Washington Street Bridge re-opened at 6:45 this morning, ending a three-day closure of the busy route.
The Marietta Police Department says work is still underway, including repaving on both sides of the bridge plus the crossing approach. One lane was closed this morning, with flaggers in place.
While the opening is a blessing for out-of-town travelers, locals may want to use the Putnam Bridge today, while crews put the "finishing touches" on a much smoother Washington Street and Fort Harmar Drive.
The heavily used crossing was seriously deteriorated for several years. The city contributed more than $23,000 to the project in order to have the crossing rebuilt with concrete instead of wooden ties, as CSX planned.
