Man Drives Friend's Car into Ohio River
Posted on: 08/06/2013

Marietta police officers and firefighters responded to a traffic crash last night in which a car and its driver ended up in the Ohio River.
Captain Jeff Waite says 43-year-old Ronald Dean Welch Junior of 209 Fearing Street was driving a 2003 Ford Mustang on Virginia Street when he drove off the right side of the roadway, went over the embankment and the Mustang came to rest with its front wheels in the river.
Welch was ejected from the car and thrown into the river.
Both Welch and his passenger, Victor Thompson - the owner of the Mustang - were taken by rescue squad to Marietta Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and later released.
Alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor. The investigation is still underway.
