East Muskingum Civic Association hosts Community Day

This Saturday is the third annual Devola Community Day, hosted by the East Muskingum Civic Association.

WMOA News spoke with Jennifer Schenkel, the group’s treasurer, who says the day starts at 8 am with a community yard sale.

“That’s in the Devola Pool parking lot," Schenkel says.  "Then, from 10 to 3 is when we have all of our activities.  We have kids’ games with prizes and face painting.  We’ll have a food trailer and the Snow Biz truck will be there also.  We’ll be selling tickets to our country store.”

Also on tap is a soccer clinic.  And, the sheriff’s office will be doing identification cards for kids.  Plus, Schenkel says there is some free entertainment planned.

“The ‘High Schools That Rock’ will be there from 11 to 1," Schenkel explains.  "In the afternoon, we’re going to have a representative from Stacy’s Dance Studio there to help teach us some of the latest line dances and things like that.”

All activities are free.  However, Schenkel says the event is a fundraiser for the civic association to make improvements to the park playground.

“We have a design already in place with Meyer Design," Schenkel says.  "They’re a company out of Canton that does recycled playgrounds.  We have a piece of equipment that’s for 2 to 5 year olds, and one for 6 and above.  Then, we also want to add a more permanent stage to our playground, so we can have different events – like some music in the park or even family movie nights.  Or, just even for kids to have imaginative play when they’re down in the playground.”
