Two people arrested in series of burglaries

Two people have been arrested in connection with a series of house burglaries around the Mid-Ohio Valley.

Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks says 28-year-old Calvin Riggs and 24-year-old Misty Riggs were arrested yesterday for being fugitives from justice in Florida.  Mincks says both have admitted to committing a number of burglaries.

The sheriff says the couple would stop at houses that appeared unoccupied then  knock on the door to see if anyone was home.  If someone answered, they would ask to purchase rabbits or other items.  If no one answered, a window was smashed to gain entry and items taken – primarily money, guns, and jewelry.

Mincks says items from burglaries have been recovered in Washington, Athens, Meigs, and Jackson Counties in Ohio; and in Wood and Mason Counties in West Virginia.

If you have been a victim of such a burglary and have not been contacted by investigators, you’re asked to call your local law enforcement agency to file a report.

Mincks says the investigation continues, and additional charges are likely to be filed.
