Investigation determines human error cause of March mortar explosion

The investigation into the death of seven Marines, including a Marietta man, in a March training exercise has been completed.
The Marine Corps says that human error was the cause of the mishap that killed Lance Corporal Josh Taylor and six other Marines at the Hawthorne Army Depot in Nevada.
The investigation determined that Marines employing one of the mortars did not follow correct procedures, resulting in the detonation of a 60 millimeter mortar round.  It was also found that the mortar section had not conducted appropriate training leading up to the incident.
Initially, there was a question as to whether the mortar system functioned properly.  It was determined that there were no issues with that
Three marines have been relieved of duty since the incident.  The Marine Corps says no charges are likely to be filed against anyone.
