For twenty-one years, the Love Lights celebration at Marietta Memorial Hospital has been inviting community members to donate in the memory of family members and loved ones…these donations are represented by lighted ornaments on decorated Christmas trees throughout the hospital.
Wendy Brewer, with the Memorial Health Foundation, says they
typically raise $10,000 to $15,000, which goes towards their Hospice program.
Brewer says the holidays are a difficult time for those who have lost loved ones.
“Particularly this time of year when we focus on traditions and spending time with family, it can be especially difficult,” she explains, “So this is a nice way for people to remember someone and dedicate a light of love for someone special to you that may no longer be here.”
The Love Lights are displayed on trees throughout the Health System. “We have five or six trees displayed in the hospital’s public waiting rooms; they each have a theme and are beautifully decorated.”
She adds they also have a ‘Book of Honor’ displayed with the Love Lights tree on the first floor walk way near the Foundation office. “In that we have the names of the donors and the loved ones their honoring.”
Those wanting to contribute to Love Lights can stop by the Foundation at the first floor hallway or send a check to Memorial Health System Foundation, Love Lights Program, P.O. Box 97, Marietta, Ohio, 45750; call 374-4913; or go online to www.mmhospital.org/give.
