Sheriff Investigates Ludlow Well Site Theft, Newport Explosion and Brush Fire

Checking Washington County Sheriff’s Office reports…
There’s been another theft of oil and gas equipment from a remote well site - a problem that increasingly plagues drilling firms and law enforcement throughout the region. The owner of Schneider Oil Company of New Matamoras reported that at some point in the past two months, unknown suspects entered a storage trailer parked off Shay Ridge Road in Ludlow Township.  Stolen from the trailer were four gas engines, multiple tools and numerous pipe fittings, valued at more than $4,000. The case remains under investigation.
A resident of Saint Andrews Boulevard at Oxbow in Dunham Township reported he noticed a band saw, air compressor, jigsaw and tool cabinet missing from a storage shed on his property.  He later located one of the stolen items in Parkersburg at the residence of his daughter’s boyfriend’s brother.  A deputy questioned witnesses and determined the property owner’s daughter stole the items with the intention of selling them. The man declined to pursue charges and made arrangements to retrieve his belongings.
Last week a deputy and Newport Township volunteer firefighters were dispatched to a brush fire near the intersection of Porter Run Road and Newell Run Road. Witnesses in the area reported hearing a loud boom which they believed was related to the fire, but gas line workers said they could find no problems.
