A free “Medicare Check-up” event in Marietta this Monday coincides with the first day of Medicare’s annual enrollment period.
Ohio Department of Insurance spokesman Robert Denhard tells WMOA News that the check-up event will help seniors review recent changes to Medicare.
“These changes could include changes to deductibles, co-payments, co-insurance. Another consideration is reviewing your prescription drug formulary – current 2012 plans could be different for 2013,” explains Denhard. “So it’s imperative for people to double-check and make sure there aren’t any changes and if there are, consider making a switch to a different plan.”
He says there are several plans to choose including original Medicare paired with a Part D prescription drug plan and medical supplement plan or a Medicare Advantage plan. “They can also determine if their existing plan already meets all their needs for the coming year.”
Determining health care coverage is an important decision and Denhard encourages seniors to bring a family member or friend with them to the event.
The Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program, known as OSHIIP, can also provide enrollment assistance to seniors.
The free Medicare Check-up is this Monday, Oct. 15 at the O’Neill Senior Center on Fourth Street, by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, call the O’Neill at 373.3915.
Those unable to attend can call OSHIIP with questions at 1.800.686.1578.
Medicare annual open enrollment runs from October 15 until December 7.
