The autumn season is here and it’s one local farm’s favorite time of the year...
Sweetapple Farm in Vincent started out in 1940 as a family farm for Carroll and Clara Barrett, who would have four sons and two daughters while raising cattle and various crops.
The youngest son, Jim, and his wife Mona moved to the farm in 1978 and named their first cow “Sweetapple”. Mona Barrett says they purchased Sweetapple Farm in 1991 and opened it to the public twelve years ago.
WMOA News asked her about this year’s fall activities.
“Our corn maze theme this year is ‘Little Miss Muppet’ and it stands at six and a half feet tall. Our other activities include pick-your-own pumpkins, build your own scarecrow, pumpkin painting and then different animals, goats and cattle, for the children to see; there’s also a hay ride,” says Barrett.
Still a working farm, Sweetapple features some home-grown and homemade goodies including grass-fed beef, pumpkin pies, and crafts.
Sweetapple Farm is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to dusk and Sundays noon to 6 p.m. From Marietta, take 550 West to 339 South, then turn right just past Warren High School. The address is 149 Sweetapple Road, Vincent, Ohio.
