WMOA News spoke with the club’s president, Dan Jones, about its long-time connection to the area.
“It’s well over thirty years old and got its start in my living room – there were six of us that got together and decided we needed a club in town that promoted healthy outdoor activity and got people off the couch,” says Jones.
He adds that the club has hosted events ever since with their largest event every June, a “River Rendezvous” bike ride from Duncan Falls to Marietta and back, with around 300-350 participants every year.
Dan Jones says this Sunday they’re hosting the seventh City Triathlon, with running, bicycling and paddling along the Muskingum River. “We put it together because we think it’s a cool events and allows athletes a chance to test themselves against other athletes, and we always have a good time.”
Participants can compete in a team or individually, with registration set for 7 a.m. this Sunday, September 23rd, in the park next to the Marietta College Boathouse on Gilman Avenue. Entry fee is $20 per person with the race starting at 10 a.m.
