Local Riverman Passes Away at Age 59
Posted on: 09/18/2012
By  Mike Cullums
We here at the radio station were saddened to learn of the passing of a friend and longtime listener who always livened up his surroundings.
Mike Giglio was a character - a guy who thought outside the box and never lacked for new ideas. Most of those ideas centered around water in general and the Ohio and Muskingum rivers in particular.
Back in the '90s Mike drew up detailed plans for a new mid-size sternwheeler that would take passengers from a home port of Marietta up and down the mighty Ohio. He was remarkably persistent in trying to get others onboard with his plan and to secure financial backing, but it never came to pass.
Michael Anthony Giglio was 59. He died Sunday in the Ross Heart Hospital of Wexner Medical Center at OSU. He was born in California, graduated from high school in Mahoning County, was an Air Force veteran of Vietnam, and was a self-employed truck driver. He is survived by his wife, Julita, and several other relatives.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow morning at 10:30 at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. His family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Ohio River Museum, 601 Front Street, Marietta, OH 45750.
