Local Pantry Wins National Charity Contest

Residents of the Marietta area have come through once again to help neighbors in need.

Word came on Sunday that the Gospel Mission Food Pantry won the first-ever “Fill a Food Pantry Ministry Outreach” contest, thanks to the online votes of hundreds of local supporters including WMOA listeners.

The West Side pantry was one of four nationwide, nominated to compete in the online contest. Marietta’s pantry came out ahead of nominees from Clinton, Indiana; Clyde, Ohio and Fort Lauderdale, Florida (pop. 165,000).

The Gospel Mission Food Pantry opened last September at the Harmar Community Center on Lancaster Street under the leadership of Candy and Jeff Waite and with an army of volunteers.

Thanks to the community's online votes, the pantry will receive a monetary donation and coupons to help stock the shelves. If you would like to help the pantry...or if you find yourself in a situation where you need help...call Candy Waite at 740-350-4417.
