The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Flood Watch for southeast Ohio and adjoining counties of West Virginia, in effect this afternoon through tonight.
Forecasters say a storm system is expected to move over the region, producing one to two inches of rain. With the ground already saturated from previous rainfall, flooding on small streams and creeks may occur. There will also be strong rises on rivers in the watch area.
A Flood Watch means there's a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. Persons in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
As for major rivers...this morning's forecasts indicate that the Ohio River at Marietta should stay well below flood stage the next few days. However...rainfall is expected to impact the entire Muskingum River watershed, thus the NWS predicts that the Muskingum River at McConnelsville will crest at or very near flood stage on Saturday morning, then remain near flood stage for several days.
