The Boys of Summer

As we head into our first broadcast of Amercian Legion baseball this Saturday afternoon, I can't help but go back in my mind to the 2006 season. Beverly/Lowell Post 389/750 was loaded that summer but the team's ability to score runs was just uncanny. The line-up, one through nine, could flat out hit. And they proved that during the state tournament in Athens. Late summer in southern Ohio; warm days and big crowds as I recall. And Beverly/Lowell lost their first game. They wouldn't lose another! They came all the way through the losers bracket to the championship game at the Bobcats facility! And won it all! A huge crowd in attendance and listening on the radio! Who can forget Beebe's towering home run to left center! But the most amazing thing was how it energized Washington County! Post 389/750 was (and is) made up of the best players from all the area high schools. So the interest was there...and once Post 389/750 started winning games in bunches, everyone got behind them. Get out and support "The Boys of Summer" the next month or so...who knows what could happen!
