When the Temps Get Cooler

Well, with the first day of autumn upon us, we'll be seeing a lot of changes. The leaves on the trees will be changing colors, football season will kick into full swing, pumpkins will be hitting their ripest, and it'll soon be time to go out turkey hunting. But there are also things that we as a society must do to not only prepare for the holidays and times of celebration, but also to prepare for the less than happy times that can come about when the temperatures start to cool down.

We recently spoke with Tom Mazza, a weather forecaster at the Charleston, West Virginia branch of the National Weather Service to ask him for advice on what we can do to better prepare ourselves for these cooler times. If you're a farmer or gardner, be prepared for the possibility of frost and freezing temperatures, especially in the late night hours where they may hit right below zero degrees with occasional wintry preciptation. Harvest your crops while you still can, and take care to cover other plants that are still in the process of growing.
