The Wayne National Forest is seeking public comments on a proposal that would change recreation fees to enhance campgrounds and help attract more visitors to Southeast Ohio.

The Wayne is looking to reduce permit fees for off-highway vehicle users.

At this point, mountain bike riders are paying $45 for a seasonal permit, $24 for a three day pass and $12 for a one day pass.

Beginning next year, seasonal permits will be reduced to just $35 and the three day permit will be reduced to $20.

Forest Supervisor Toni Sccardina says that "By eliminating fees for horse and mountain bike users, the Forest will be aligned with other trail providers in the are."

The proposal also helps standardize camping fees for the higher developed campgrounds across the forest.

The public is invited to comment on the fee changes.  The comment period will last until July 28th.

Comments can be mailed to comments-eastern-wayne@fs.fed.us.

Written comments can be mailed to the Wayne National Forest Supervisor's Office at 13700 US hwy 33, Nelsonville Ohio 45764.
