MARIETTA, Ohio (September 26, 2016) - At a recent meeting of the Washington County Local Emergency Planning Commission, the group discussed the timing of their annual full-scale disaster response exercise held jointly with Morgan County.

Committee leader Lorie Haukedahl says the Hazardous Materials event is held annually as part of the funding requirements for the LEPC, but more importantly, as a way to keep emergency responders up-to-date and prepared to assist the public in an emergency.

Haukedahl says planning the two-county event is a major undertaking, and rather than rush through it this fall, as initially scheduled, the Commission has voted to hold the event in the spring instead.

Washington and Morgan County LEPC representatives will settle on a final date for the full-scale Hazardous Materials exercise in the next couple of months.
