WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ohio (July 22, 2016) - For some area residents struggling with the high cost of necessary medications, there may help available through the Area Agency on Aging.

The Medicare Savings Extra Help program is designed to assist people with limited income to cover Medicare prescription drug costs.
Gwynn Stewart, with the Area Agency on Aging District 8 in Marietta, says the program addresses a well-known problem -- that some seniors can't afford the medications they need.

Stewart says many in the area may be able to benefit from the program and not even know it. Those interested in determining eligibility don't need to travel to the office. Stewart says the process can quickly be handled with a phone call.

The program has been an effective way for eligible participants to save money toward prescription and health care costs. Stewart says the average savings for those enrolled in the Extra Help program are significant at an average of $325 per month.

For more information about the Medicare Extra Help program, call the Area Agency on Aging District 8 Office at (740) 373-6400 or 1 (800) 331-2644 or visit areaagency8.org .
