(Athens, OH) -- Long-standing Ohio University President Roderick McDavis is celebrating his last day at the helm of the Athens-based public college today after announcing in May that he would be stepping down at the end of his contract.

During his lengthy tenure, McDavis' accomplishments have included a successful $500 million capital campaign; three state-recognized Centers of Excellence, three named academic colleges, the development of the Urban and Appalachian Scholars program, and the opening of two new extension campuses in Dublin and Cleveland.

A 21-person search committee is now charged with finding the University's 21st president and has launched a website dedicated to the task, which will provide up-to-date information for students and staff, as well as serve as a recruiting tool for candidates.

McDavis, who has served 12 years in the position, says it is time to pursue new opportunities. The Dayton native is the historic University's 20th president and first African American leader.
