Unemployment Rates in Ohio, SE Ohio Down in May
The bad news -- southeast Ohio still has the counties with some of the highest jobless rates in Ohio.
According to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, the unemployment rate in Ohio dropped one-tenth of a percent, down to 5.1%.
Monroe County continues to have the highest unemployment rate in Ohio at 10.8 percent, although that was down from 12.3 percent in April. Western Ohio's Mercer County has the lowest jobless rate in the state...at just 2.9 percent.
In Washington County, the unemployment rate for May was 6.5 percent, down from 6.7 percent in April.
Other area counties saw unemployment rates of 7.8 percent in Noble County; 7.7 percent in both Morgan and Meigs Counties and 5.2 percent in Athens County.
