Marietta College Promotes Dr. Richard Danford

(Marietta, OH) – Marietta College has removed the interim tag, and named Dr. Richard Danford, a veteran of higher education who has experience inside and outside of the classroom, Marietta College's Vice President for Student Life.
 
Danford, who joined Marietta College's faculty in 1998 has been serving as interim vice president since the spring of 2015.
 
Dr. Joseph Bruno, Marietta College's President, says, "I am excited to remove the interim tag from Dr. Danford's title as he has earned this promotion. Richard has worked tirelessly to put an emphasis back on our students, and many of the students I have spoken with have appreciated the initiatives that have been implemented under Richard's leadership."
 
Most recently, Danford served as Marietta's Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion from 2011 to 2015. Following the departure of Dr. Robert Pastoor, Danford stepped into the interim role in Student Life.
 
During his first thirteen years at Marietta, Danford attained the rank of Associate Professor in Modern Languages. Born and raised in southeastern Ohio, he earned three degrees from the Ohio State University. An M.A and a Ph.D in Spanish languistics, as well as a B.S. in biological sciences. He studied abroad in Toledo, Spain, and later directed study abroad programs for Ohio State in Cuernavaca, Mexico and Toledo, Spain.
 
He also spent two years teaching English in Madrid and has led short-term study abroad programs for Marietta College in Spain and Brazil.
