(Marietta, OH) – With today being a holiday and more on the way everyone loves to celebrate with their friends and family members, and sometimes those family members happen to have four legs and a tail. Whether they are feline, canine, or both it's important to know and remember that even though we'd like to celebrate the holidays with them there are some things we shouldn't share.

We spoke to Christina, a Vet Technician at Colegate Woods Veterinary, about what to NOT feed your four legged friends during the holidays. She said things like bones whether from turkey or ham are not a good idea. They can get lodged in the intestines and cause a need for emergency surgery. Any type of pork products are also a bad idea, as they can cause pancreatitis and can make your pet very sick.

Greasy and spicy foods are also on the no-no list, as well as anything raw, including raw bread dough. The yeast and sugars can cause a lot of problems for your furry pals. It's important to not only not feed them these things, but to also make sure they don't get into them by accident.

So what is okay to feed your pets? Christina says raw carrots or green beans are okay. So is turkey meat as long as it's fully cooked, not greasy, and you are sure it contains no bones. An apple slice could be a sweet treat for your fuzzy friends too.
